In preparation for an upcoming legislative session, I prepared the following policy brief on teacher leadership structures. This will provide a general idea how I prepare objective analysis for decision-makers.

Teacher Leadership Policy Brief

When I was launched a new statewide institute dedicated to research innovation in instruction and educator preparation, I prepared a draft Theory of Change for the advisory board to use in our early planning meetings. This demonstrates early stages of program development.

I prepared a brief overview for a mid-Atlantic state education agency on the topic of monitoring school performance. This demonstrates how I tend to enter a project and begin strategic planning.

Across my career, I have used logic models for strategic planning purposes. Here is a presentation I prepared for a Regional Educational Labs, providing an overview of logic models and how they can be used.

While working for a western state education agency, I led a 9-month stakeholder convening to modernize the state’s educator preparation program review and approval processes and regulations. Below is the final report from that group.

I believe personas and journey maps are an under-utilized tool in education policy work. They can be used to capture the voices of stakeholders by speaking across large groups of people, and they can help an agency anticipate potential barriers to policy implementation. Most of my past work products generating personas can’t be shared publicly, so I produced a couple of original personas as an example below: I reflected on over a dozen leaders I’ve encountered across my work and conducted analysis to generate three potential client profiles for a future education policy coaching service.

Finally, here is my Ph.D. dissertation. Since it is rather long, I would suggest:

  • The section beginning on p. 21 for an example of how I unpack a conceptual framework.

  • The section beginning on p. 107 for a description of my approach to qualitative data analysis.

  • The section beginning on p. 213 for an example of analysis I have conducted.
